After receiving chemotherapy for more than four months, Sir Chris Hoy has stated that he feels "optimistic" about his fight against cancer.
The legendary Olympic cyclist revealed in February of last year that he had been diagnosed with cancer last year, adding that the news had come as a "huge shock, having had no symptoms."
He is currently concentrating on his recuperation and awaiting his last round of chemotherapy.
The 48-year-old stated, "I have been going through chemotherapy for the past 18 weeks, and I have the final round coming up, which I'm very excited about to get that behind me," in an interview with his Sporting Misadventures podcast.
"I'm eager to finish it, begin the healing process, and enjoy the longer days of summer ahead." I am beginning to feel somewhat more upbeat.
"Even though the winter has been long, spirits are rising every day when you see the first daffodils emerging and know that spring is coming."
On April 26 and 28, Sir Chris, who has thanked his wife Sarra for her unwavering support, will host a riding weekend at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire.
Throughout his sickness, he has been able to ride his indoor exercise bike nearly every day, and he has been using the event as a target for his rehabilitation.
This summer, Sir Chris plans to attend the Olympics in Paris, where he will likely be a member of the BBC commentary team.
With one silver and six gold medals under his belt, Sir Chris is the most decorated Olympic cyclist of all time and the most successful Scottish Olympian in history.
He disclosed his shocking cancer diagnosis on social media in February, saying he only learned of the disease a year prior.
He posted the following in its entirety on Instagram: "I have some news." I had no symptoms until last year, so receiving the cancer diagnosis was rather shocking.
I'm undergoing chemotherapy right now, and fortunately, things are going great. I want to sincerely thank everyone of the medical staff for their wonderful assistance and attention.
I had planned to keep this information hidden for the benefit of my young family, but unfortunately, we have been compelled to take action. I appreciate any help, but I'd prefer to do this privately.
My thoughts and prayers are with the countless others who are currently facing comparable difficulties. I am happy, upbeat, and surrounded by affection, all of which I sincerely appreciate.
The past few months have been quite difficult, as you could expect. But for now, I'm good; I'm still working, riding my bike, and going about my daily business.
The year ahead is full with fascinating activities, not to mention the July Olympics in Paris. I am eager to dive right in, enjoy myself, and share it all with you.
In 2010, Sir Chris wed Sarra, a 38-year-old barrister from Edinburgh. Together, they have two children: Callum, age nine, and Chloe, age six.
After he made his declaration in February, a number of other famous athletes wished him luck on social media.
'Awful news,' tweeted former England striker Gary Lineker. I hope @chrishoy gets well soon. What a nice person.
